Nursing Course Levels & Objectives
Nursing courses are numbered by year and sequenced by level. All nursing courses within a given level must be successfully completed before a student may enroll in a course at a higher level unless granted approval by the course instructor.
Level Overview
Level I
Coursework is the general education and prerequisites required by the College.
Level II
Nursing education facilitates the application of knowledge from the general education courses with nursing theory by focusing on the adaptive responses of individuals and groups in response to their own perceptions of well-being in their personal environment. The nursing focus is on conceptual development of the nursing process for the provision of health care through a collaborative relationship in roles as caregiver, teacher, and communicator. Caring is displayed through behaviors, which reflect a willing nature towards the concept of well being of individuals.
Level III
Nursing education facilitates the correlation and integration of knowledge from the general education and basic nursing courses through a focus on the adaptive responses of individual, families, and groups to actual or potential threats to internal and external dimensions of well being in personal and interpersonal spheres. Nursing focus is on critical analysis and decision-making in the utilization of the nursing process and coordination of health care through collaborative relationships. Roles expand to include case finder, client advocate, collaborator, facilitator, and change agent. Caring is displayed through behaviors reflecting commitment to well being that is displayed through investment of self towards the concept of well being of individuals, families, and groups.
Level IV
Nursing education facilitates the synthesis of knowledge from the general education and nursing courses through a focus on the adaptive responses of individual, family, groups, and community to multidimensional threats to well being in the personal or interpersonal societal spheres. Nursing focus is on role development in professional practice as leader in the provision and coordination of health care. Caring is displayed through a commitment towards the well being of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society.
Level Objectives
Level II
- Relate the components of the nursing process to the delivery of nursing care.
- Develop a personal conceptual framework for the professional roles and standards used in nursing practice.
- Discuss importance of research to nursing practice.
- Describe collaborative relationships with other health professionals in the provision of health care.
- Develop professional values with ethical, moral, and legal aspects of nursing within specific health care systems.
- Practice caring through a willing nature toward the concept of well being of individuals.
Level III
- Utilize the nursing process in the delivery of nursing care to individuals, families, and groups.
- Demonstrate the development of specific behaviors related to professional roles and standards of care in the delivery of safe and comprehensive nursing care.
- Examine current research findings for application to nursing practice.
- Participate in the provision and coordination of health care through collaborative relationships with other health professionals.
- Employ professional values with ethical, moral, and legal aspects into nursing practice.
- Create an environment of caring through behaviors reflecting commitment to the well being of individuals, families, and groups.
Level IV
- Integrate the nursing process in the delivery of nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
- Synthesize the development of professional roles and the maintenance of standards in the delivery of safe comprehensive nursing care.
- Assess nursing research findings for appropriate application in nursing practice to refine and extend that practice.
- Assimilate a leadership role in the provision and coordination of healthcare through collaborative relationships with other health professionals.
- Establish professional values with ethical, moral, and legal aspects of nursing into nursing practice.
- Assimilate caring behaviors that reflect commitment to the well being of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society.
