Frequently Asked Questions

In order to better serve you, we would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions regarding admission into Lakeview College of Nursing.

Do you have a wait list?
We currently do NOT have a wait list. Our slots available usually come close to equaling the number of qualified applicants. Immediately following the admission process we may have a wait list but typically the number on our wait list is equal to the number of declined admissions and therefore we are able to move folks from the wait list into an actual seat prior to the beginning of the semester. However, please keep in mind that the number and quality of applicants is ever-changing and difficult to predict for future semesters.

Do I have a better chance of becoming admitted at one campus over the other?
Typically each campus, Danville and Charleston, has close to an equal number of applicants and admissions. However, if admission is full at one campus and slots remain at the other campus we will consider applicants for an alternative campus as long as they list their preferences on the application. If you are only interested in one particular campus simply place a 0 beside the campus of which you do not want to attend.

Will I qualify for an Early Admission Decision?
If you hold at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA and have the majority of your science coursework complete you may qualify for an early decision. You need to submit your application by March 1st if you’d like to be considered for an early decision for the Fall Semester and by September 1st for the Spring Semester.

Can I still be admitted the program if I have coursework in progress or if I’m planning to complete a couple of the prerequisites over the summer semester?
Yes. The majority of students who apply for admission have coursework in progress at the time they are making application. Simply include a copy of your current schedule or a memo stating what you plan to enroll in for future semesters so that we are aware of your plans.

I’d like to take the Chemistry and Statistics at Lakeview. Can I take these courses concurrent with the nursing coursework?
Students need to take the Chemistry and the Statistics prior to beginning the nursing coursework. You may be enrolled in coursework while making application for admission, but all preliminary coursework should be complete prior to beginning any nursing coursework. And, in most cases, students will not be admitted for the upcoming semester unless they have a plan for completing all preliminary coursework prior to the nursing coursework. Lakeview does sometimes allow students to be admitted with limited enrollment (this status is not guaranteed and is dependent upon the quality of the applicant) in order to take the Chemistry and Statistics courses at Lakeview College of Nursing. In these cases usually all other preliminary coursework except the Chemistry and Statistics is complete. If you are interested in this, please consider taking the Chemistry and Statistics over Lakeview’s Summer Session and then beginning nursing coursework the following fall. The other option for completing Chemistry and Statistics at Lakeview College of Nursing is to take the courses as a Non-Degree Seeking Student. The credit you receive will be counted toward your BSN degree at Lakeview. However, there are financial aid limitations with this option as you must be a degree-seeking student in order to benefit from federal and state grants and student loans.

Can I take LCN's N203 Language of Healthcare course concurrently with the nursing coursework?
We recommend that you enroll in the N203 Language of Healthcare one semester prior to beginning nursing coursework. However, if you are unable to complete it as previously mentioned AND if you are NOT concerned with being at Sophomore status for financial aid purposes it is an option.

Is your program accredited?
Yes. Lakeview College of Nursing is approved by the State and holds both regional and national accreditations. For more information on our accreditations, please visit the Accreditations section of this website or contact us if you’d like to request that the information be mailed to you.

Do you accept international students?
Lakeview College of Nursing does NOT accept international students. We require that all applicants have legal residency within the United States and do not issue I-20s for student visas. We therefore require that each student be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident. A copy of a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or a copy of a green card may be used as documentation.

How does Lakeview deal with International transcripts?
Anyone who has attended a college or university outside the U.S. must have transcript(s) and credentials translated into English with letter grades and course descriptions and have it evaluated by a recognized agency specializing in such at their own expense.

I was born in another country. Will I have any additional requirements?
Official TOEFL scores sent directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS) are required for anyone who was born outside the United States. A TOEFL Score of 550 or better (paper test) or 213 (Computer-Based Test: CBT) is required. In addition, Lakeview carefully evaluates the three sub-scores (listening, structure/writing, and reading) on the TOEFL test. Lakeview may require remediation, if one or more sub-score is/are substantially low, even though the total score is acceptable.
