Suggested Curriculum Tracks

Lakeview College of Nursing offers two campuses as well as different tracks to take in earning the BSN degree.  Students who do not already hold an RN license choose between our accelerated and traditional tracks once they have completed preliminary coursework and have been admitted into the program. Please contact us if you would like more information regarding our RN to BSN track.

It may be possible for students to enroll on a part-time basis (fewer than 12 credit hours per semester). However, priority for admission (pre-licensure) is granted first to those wishing to pursue full-time study and then to those wishing to pursue part-time study (if space is avalable). If a student is admitted under the part-time status an individualized degree plan will be formulated based upon the number of credit hours the student would like to take within a given semester. Please see the time limitation information on the duration of the BSN program and be aware of financial aid implications of pursuing part-time study.

Suggested "Traditional Track"

Lakeview's "Traditional Track" allows students to complete the suggested nursing curriculum for the BSN program within 21 months between fall and spring semesters. The traditional track does not include a summer session. Students may begin the "Traditional Track" either fall or spring semester.

Suggested Curriculum Plan – "Traditional Track" Danville Campus

Semester I - IV to be completed at the accredited college or university of the student's choice or at one of our partner schools.

(*Verification of current certification in CPR is a prerequisite for enrollment in all clinical courses. The certification must cover both choking and CPR for infants, children and adults including two-rescuer for children and adults. A health provider CPR course given by a local Red Cross or American Heart Association will fulfill this requirement. Semester V - VIII are to be completed at LCN's Danville Campus.

Suggested Curriculum Plan – LCN Traditional & Accelerated BSN Tracks

Pre-Nursing at Eastern Illinois University

Suggested Curriculum Plan – Danville Campus "Accelerated Track"

Semester I - IV to be completed at the accreditated college or university of the student's choice or at one of our partner schools.

Suggested Curriculum Plan – Charleston (EIU) Campus "Traditional or Accelerated Track"

Semester I - IV to be completed at the accreditated college or university of the student's choice or at one of our partner schools.

Semester V - VIII are to be completed at LCN's Charleston (EIU) Campus.

Suggested "Paced Track "

Some students are not used to a rigorous course schedule which requires them to carry 15-17 credit hours per semester.  For those students who wish to have a less rigorous schedule, an extended semester program is offered.  This track includes summer sessions which enables students to graduate in the 23-28 months (depending on start date).

Suggested Curriculum Plan – "Paced Track" Starting with Fall Admissions

Semester I - IV to be completed at the accredited college or university of the student's choice or at one of our partner schools.

Semester V - XI are to be completed at LCN's Danville or Eastern Campus.

Suggested BSN Completion Track for LPNs

This track is designed for Licensed Practical Nursing graduates who want to complete their bachelor’s degree.  Upon completion of Lakeview’s LPN-BSN Track graduates find that doors open to leadership positions, there is increased earning potential and an opportunity to practice in a wider range of settings. 

Lakeview College of Nursing offers a very flexible, individualized program which can be completed in a time frame anywhere between 16 months and 6 years, depending on the student's needs.  Credit is granted for nursing skills already learned through school or work experience.  Coursework is available on site in Danville or Charleston.  Some coursework is also available on-line.  LPNs with licensure outside of IL may be required to obtain IL licensure.  

For LPNs there are three simple steps to completing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree:

1.  Secure LPN licensure.

2.  Complete the coursework required for LPNs.

3.  Complete the following courses at Lakeview College of Nursing:

Suggested BSN Completion Track for Licensed RNs

This track is designed for Registered Nurse graduates of associate degree or diploma programs who want to complete their bachelor’s degree.  Upon completion of Lakeview’s RN-BSN Track graduates find that doors open to leadership positions, there is increased earning potential and an opportunity to practice in a wider range of settings. 

For RNs there are three simple steps to completing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree:

1.  Complete AAS Degree or Diploma in Nursing.

2.  Complete the coursework required for RNs.

3.  Complete the following courses at Lakeview College of Nursing:

(E) RNs may be exempt from this course if they have completed a 3 credit hour (2 credit hour lecture plus 1 credit hour clinical) gerontology nursing course as part of their previous study.  If an RN has completed a 2 hour gerontology course they will need to submit a syllabus to the Director of Enrollment for evaluation.  The Faculty Organization will make the final determiniation of whether courses meet LCN criteria.  In cases where there is a question, the Dean of the College of Nursing will be consulted.
