Please note:  Any other apparel must be approved by the administration prior to graduation.

Ceremony Honors

Ceremony honors are calculated prior to the commencement ceremony and do not include the most current semester's coursework; therefore, the ceremony honors are not considered official honors and will not appear on the academic transcript or diploma.  Since ceremony honors do not include the current semester's coursework, those honors may differ from the official academic honors calculated when the degree is conferred.

Honors are assigned based on the GPA criteria listed below.

  • 3.4 - 3.59 GPA Cum Laude
  • 3.6 - 3.79 GPA Magna Cum Laude
  • 3.8 - 4.00 GPA Summa Cum Laude

College Pinning Ceremony and Pins

Lakeview incorporates the traditional nursing pinning ceremony into the degree ceremony.  The cost of the pin is included in the graduation fee.  The pinning ceremony is a time-honored nursing school tradition.  It signifies an official initiation into this noble profession.  The symbolism of this rite of passage can be traced as far back as the Crusades of the 12th century.

The modern ceremony evolved in the 1860s when Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George in recognition of her tireless service to the injured during the Crimean War.

By 1916, the practice of pinning new graduates was standard throughout the United States to honor their dedication, hard work, excellence, and completion of their nursing program.  Every nursing program has a unique pin.  The pin identifies the school, indicates the graduates' successful program completion, and that the wearer is a professional nurse.  It is a symbolic welcome to the profession.

Graduates can have a close friend or family member pin them if that individual is a Registered Professional Nurse.  Graduates must provide the individual's name to be announced when the candidate crosses the stage.

Diplomas

Diploma covers will be distributed at commencement.  Diplomas will be mailed approximately 4- 6 weeks after commencement when an audit of the student's record is complete (all transfer credits are received, and all Lakeview grades are posted).  Students who received financial aid will be required to complete exit counseling before anything can be released.

Petition to Graduate

Graduates must submit their petition to graduate form within the first two weeks of the semester in which they plan on graduating.

Graduate Survey

A survey will be distributed to all potential graduates and must be completed and submitted at least 3 weeks prior to Commencement.  This survey information is used for publication as well as to provide information about each graduate to be read as they walk across the stage at the commencement ceremony.

Graduate Portraits

All graduates are encouraged to participate in a pre-graduation individual photo.  This is included in the standard graduation fee. Graduation candidates will be notified of the date and time for the photo via email.  This typically occurs at the end of the semester.  Following the photo shoot, the photos will be digitally available to students to share and print as desired.

Video

*We plan to broadcast the ceremony on Facebook Live through our LCN Facebook Page.  The entire graduation ceremony may also be posted on Lakeview's YouTube channel approximately 2-4 weeks following the ceremony.
